A delightful blend from Niagara Bench and Niagara-on-the-Lake vineyards, our Bachelder Gamay Noir Argilo-Calcaire (Clay and Limestone) combines finely scented savoury and grippy Bench fruit with the classic deep, ripe fruit of Niagara-on-the-Lake! The limestone angularity of the Bench (Escarpment) vineyards’ fruit gives the wine structure and tension. With the 2021 vintage, the lively acidity and naturally light tannins of Gamay confer a feeling of conviviality and gourmandise, which is precisely why it goes well with many different cuisines! We age the Argilo-Calcaire at least 17 months in neutral barrels to further reveal the fragrance, elegance, and purity of their original clay-limestone terroirs. It will likely be at its best from 2024 - 2027. Gamay is one of Ontario’s benchmark grapes, and only now starting to get the recognition here it deserves. It is a great food wine, wonderful in season transitions, and does well with a slight chill.

A cellar treasure from the much-lauded, long-and-cool 2019 vintage for Pinot Noir, this Bachelder Parfum Pinot Noir is at once richly fruited and light on its feet. With the little more bottle age it has, it reveals a deeper perfumed complexity. Sourced from several vineyard parcels from the Niagara Escarpment and one in Four Mile Creek, it exhibits a deeply fruity, rusty, and wild nose – so typical of the Bench. In the mouth, it comes across with the raspberry and cherry pit fruit of a classic rose-perfumed Niagara Pinot Noir. It has great balance and a long, rich, limestone mineral finish. From a year with good weight, but made with a deft touch, this bottle has aged well and has a silky texture and a perfumed bouquet. This wine is drinking well now and will also improve for up to five more years in a cool cellar. Decent Pinot at this price point is hard to come by, and is another variety that suits Ontario’s climate.
